Wendy Richard MBE (born Wendy Emerton; 20th July 1943 in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, died 26th February 2009 in Harley Street, London) was an English actress who portrayed Pauline Fowler in EastEnders from February 1985 to December 2006.
Richard was also known her role as Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served? and its spin-off Grace & Favour, and had also appeared in Dixon of Dock Green, Pardon the Expression, Dad's Army, On the Buses, Comedy Playhouse, Z-Cars and Benidorm.
In 1984, Richard landed the part of Pauline Fowler, a role she played for nearly twenty two years. Until her on screen death in December 2006, she was one of only two original cast members to appear continuously from the first episode in 1985, the other being Adam Woodyatt, who plays her screen nephew Ian Beale. She was first educated at St George's Primary School in Mount Street, Mayfair, west London, before attending the Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, and then the Italia Conti Academy stage school in London.
She died on 26 February 2009 at the Harley Street clinic where she was being treated for a third bout of breast cancer.
