Storylines[]
Vince and his friend, Ollie, begin visiting the all-night cafe to play illegal games of poker. Steve Elliot tells them that he could lose his licence if they're caught, but they ignore him and continue playing. Steve asks Phil Mitchell to help with the situation which Phil agrees. When Phil visits the café to confront the group, he finds they're old acquaintances of his, so he tells Steve that there won't be any trouble and they'll give him a cut of the money they're gambling. When the poker games escalate, Mark Fowler starts losing and falls into debt. Sanjay Kapoor suspects that they're cheating and warns Mark, but Mark continues to try and win his money back.
Vince and Ollie pressure Mark into paying them the money he owes them and entice him into a game of 7 card poker. Mark has no money, but says he has the stall as his security which is £10,000, and Vince agrees. When the police unknowingly interrupt the game by entering the café, everyone shuffles, hides the cards and money and Sanjay who's standing next to the table gets the cards and screws some up. Sanjay says that he has a new pack, unwraps it and they play Three-Card Brag. Mark has the winning hand and wins back all of his money.
Ollie and Vince try to tempt Mark into playing another game of cards, so they get the chance to win back their £7,000. This is until Ruth Aitken embarrasses Ollie by kicking the back leg of his chair in the café, which causes him to fall back against the wall.
Mark gives the winnings to his father, Arthur Fowler, to treat them to a holiday. When Arthur is wrongly arrested for embezzlement, Mark tracks Vince and Ollie down and asks them for a favour to help get Arthur cleared of the charges by admitting where most of the funds had come from to pay for the holiday. They decline.
Steve agrees to testify as a witness for the card game even though he is worried about the repercussions from Vince and Ollie. Phil and Grant Mitchell meet with Vince and Ollie and tell them to leave Steve alone. They ignore the Mitchell brothers and kidnap Steve's girlfriend, Lydia. A shaken Lydia returns and explains to Steve that she was almost drowned and that Vince and Ollie will return if Steve dares to testify in court. Steve vows to testify, but Lydia persuades him that they should leave for their own safety.
Later that month, Phil and Grant arranged for someone to put the frighteners on them and they finally got the message. The pair weren't seen again.
