Violet "Vi" Highway made her first appearance on 3 May 2021. and her last appearance on 9 March 2023. She is the mother of Jonno Highway and Christopher Highway and the grandmother of Stuart and Callum Highway. She is portrayed by Gwen Taylor.
Backstory[]
Violet had a child named Christopher Highway that she gave up for adoption due to him having Down's Syndrome.
Storylines[]
Vi came to Walford for her grandson, Callum Highway’s wedding. She caused a lot of problems with the residents due to her quick remarks. After the wedding she decided to stay due to renovations on her house and stayed with her grandsons and their partners. Violet later told Rainie Highway that her son Jonno Highway threw her out of her home after a fight because she was going to the wedding which Jonno didn’t approve of and made Rainie promise not to say anything. Jonno later sold all of her things. Violet reclaimed all of her things when Stuart Highway found them on Billy Mitchell’s market stall when he noticed a large framed picture of himself as a child, she then told him what had happened. She became panicked when an antique children’s book was missing, she discovered Kim Fox bought the book from the stall but she refused to give it back when she asked as she had already given it to Pearl. Patrick Trueman found a picture she was looking for in the book, a picture of her when she was pregnant. Vi reveals that she had a one night stand at 51 and fell pregnant with little boy named Christopher who has down syndrome and was put up for adoption.
When Stuart finds out about Christopher he throws Vi out of the house, Stuart regrets his actions and tries to track Vi down but us unsuccessful. Vi returns months later and discoverers Stuart has breast cancer and is refusing to have treatment, Vi meets Stuart in the cafe and convinces him to have the treatment, she then meets Warren who is a conspiracy theorist con artist who sells his own prescriptions to cancer victims and puts them of going to surgery, Vi calls him out and Warren verbally insults her, leading to Stuart attacking him, Stuart goes on to have the Surgery and surrogate Bernadette gives birth to Roland Highway, Rainie and Stuart’s first child. Vi then helps raise Roland with Rainie and Stuart and support Stuart after his operation. When Stuart and Rainie split, Vi remains in Walford and supports Stuart. Stuart later leaves after reuniting with Rainie and Vi stays in Walford.
When Pam Coker evicts Vi from 53A, she moves in with Callum at 29B Albert Square.
In February 2023, Denzel Danes enters a non-fiction writing contest and wins, however, he copied the plot from a series Amy Mitchell had made him watch. When the Walford gazette gets in touch wanting an interview, Denzel panics, however Howie helps him get through it. The gazette later want an interview with his grandparents he’d talked about in the story, however his grandmother lives in the Caribbean, so Howie hatches a plan involving Patrick Trueman to act as Denzel’s grandad, and gets Vi to act as his step-grandmother. The gazette love the interview, and later ask them back for a second one, which they agree to do. When returning from the second interview, Vi receives a call from an unknown number, which later turns out to be Stuart Highway, who invites her to live with them as a live-in nanny for Roland Highway, which she accepts, leaving the square for another part of London which she says is only an hour away. After Vi’s departure, after pretending to have been with Vi, Patrick realises that Yolande Trueman is his one true love and temporarily leaves Walford to try and win her back.
