Fiona "Tosh" Mackintosh made her first appearance 25 February 2014 and her last on 11 December 2014. She is portrayed by Rebecca Scroggs.
Backstory[]
Since leaving school, Fiona has always been known as her nickname 'Tosh'. Growing up, Tosh had a troubled relationship with her mother, proven by how she tells Tina Carter that she is worried about 'becoming her mother' whilst they babysit Amy Mitchell, and how she hates to be reminded of her. Tosh also joined the fire service and quickly formed close relations with many of her co-workers.
Sometime prior to entering Walford, Tosh began a relationship with Tina Carter. Shirley Carter acknowledges the problematic nature of this relationship in November 2013 and says that Tina should come to Walford with her to escape Tosh and her violent personality. However, Tina and Tosh eventually make up off-screen and Tosh comes to Walford for the very first time.
Storylines[]
Tina Carter, after an argument with her sister Shirley Carter, decides to reach out to Tosh, realizing she still cares for her deeply. She invites Tosh to a family dinner, where Tosh quickly bonds with Tina's sister-in-law, Linda Carter, but immediately clashes with Shirley, who is aware of Tosh’s previous violent behaviour toward Tina. Determined to keep Tina away from Tosh, Shirley visits the fire station to warn Tosh off, but is publicly humiliated when Tosh douses her with a fire hose. When Shirley tries to physically confront Tosh for this, Tosh's co-workers protect Tosh by standing in front of her and laughing in Shirley's face. Unyielding, Shirley locks Tina in the upstairs lounge of The Queen Victoria pub. However, Tosh arrives in Albert Square and places a ladder up to the window of the Queen Vic, allowing her to reconnect with Tina. Just as they are about to enjoy some time together, Tina is urgently called to help Cindy Williams, who is in a drunken state despite being pregnant. Tosh, preferring not to interrupt her time off, leaves Tina to handle the situation on her own. However, Tina is aided by Sonia Fowler where the two begin to bond for the first time.
Tosh becomes insecure about Tina's friendship with Roxy Mitchell, despite Roxy not being a lesbian. In late April 2014, Tosh and Tina plan a night out, but Tina gets caught up with her friend Sonia Fowler and tells Tosh to go without her, which leads to Sonia and Tina bonding even further, eventually leading to a kiss. The next day, Tosh angrily confronts Tina in The Queen Vic for failing to attend their night out, leading Shirley to intervene and tell Tosh to leave. Later, Tosh discusses her living situation with Aleks Shirovs in The Vic, and they decide that Tosh will move in with him and his flatmate Jake Stone, which makes Tina happy. Eventually, Tina also moves in with them. In the Queen Vic toilets, Tosh overhears Sonia and her half-sister Bianca Butcher talking about a kiss between Sonia and Tina which had occurred a few days prior. Furious, Tosh confronts Tina in their new flat and ends up knocking her head against the door frame, causing Tina to develop a nasty bruise. Despite this, the couple reconciles.
Soon after their reconciliation, Tosh and Tina decide that they want to start a family. Tosh questions Tina on whether she would be willing to start a family after Tina admits that she failed at her job of being a mother with her daughter, Zsa Zsa Carter. However, the two eventually come to an agreement that starting a family is the right thing for them to do. Desperate for money to fund IVF treatment, Tina starts dealing drugs for her aunt Babe Smith, which come in the form of weed brownies. Tosh discovers this after Tina is challenged by the Jacksons after Tiffany Butcher accidentally takes the weed brownies to school. Tosh then faces the struggle of trusting Tina again but eventually forgives her, explaining that she understood Tina's motive behind it but that it cannot happen again. After reviewing several possible donors, Tosh and Tina come together and choose a donor, which leads Tosh being inseminated. Despite her previous lack of hesitation, Tosh still carries the worry that her child will never know the identity of their donor father.
Tosh soon becomes pregnant and shares this news with the Carter family at a family function. However, she later reveals that she has miscarried, which knocks both her and Tina back briefly from the idea of starting a family. Despite this, Tosh is soon adamant once again that she is willing to start a family, and confirms that she will be trying for another baby. When a drunk Dean Wicks comforts Tosh about the struggles of starting a family, Dean offers to be a donor for Tosh and Tina's baby, to which Tosh agrees as long as Tina is never to find out. The secret does not last long and the next day, the truth comes out at Sharon Rickman and Phil Mitchell's wedding when Tosh confesses to Tina. Tina is momentarily furious but quickly forgives Tosh when she finds out that the insemination attempt was unsuccessful. The fallout of this situation resulted in Tosh punching Tina in the face after accusing her of not being supportive, which results in Tina growing a big bruise on her eye. When questioned about this bruise by Stacey Branning, Tina tells her that it was 'nothing' and that it wasn't Tosh that caused it. Stacey was not convinced.
At the same time, Tosh becomes involved in Alfie Moon's insurance fraud scheme, which saw him burning his own house down in order to try and gain insurance for the loss of possessions. When the actual fire occurs, Tosh acts as a guide and tells everyone in the Vic to steer clear of the flames, to gather towels, and advises individuals to not enter the flames; although, the likes of Peter Beale and Johnny Carter do this regardless of her advice. After the fire, Tosh becomes suspicious of Alfie and tells the fire investigation officer that she thinks it could be insurance fraud, before telling the police this too. This leads to the police taking in Alfie for questioning, which leads to Mick Carter calling Tosh unreasonable, despite being aware himself that Tosh's suspicions were correct.
Tina secretly invites Tosh's mother, Judy Mackintosh and her father to lunch, and soon tells Tosh the news. Tosh does not believe that either of them will be willing to attend the lunch. However, to her surprise, Judy does come to the flat. Judy is unresponsive to the news that Tosh and Tina were trying for a baby, and continues to talk about Tosh's sister, Faith Mackintosh, and her granddaughter Daisy Mackintosh instead, and also mentions that Tosh's father could not make the lunch as he was at Church. However, when Tosh becomes agitated, Judy reveals that her father was not at Church, indicating that he did not want to see Tosh, leading her to lash out at Judy and claim that her parents do not like the fact that she is a lesbian. Her mother corroborates this, saying that she just 'wants her little girl back' before leaving. Tosh becomes incredibly upset and breaks down in tears after her mother left, before being comforted by Tina.
Tina and Sonia begin to re-emerge as close friends as Tina acts as a helping hand to Sonia in the midst of her body image issues. This backfires on Tosh, who becomes paranoid as she is convinced that Tina is having an affair with Tina. Eventually, Tosh finds Sonia's watch in the flat and confronts Tina about it. The two argue and Tina denies the existence of an affair. However, Tosh does not believe her and viciously beats her. Tosh attempts to reconcile after this, but Tina stops her in her tracks, refusing to accept her apology. She tells Tosh that it would be wise to take up the opportunity of a new job and flat in Croydon, which Tosh agrees with. Tosh prepares to leave Walford, telling Tina that she was the best thing that ever happened to her, before leaving Walford for good, not to be seen again.
