Tom made his first appearance on 7 May 1996 and last on 28 November 1996. He was portrayed by Moray Treadwell.
Storylines[]
Tom is the nursery manager and Ruth Fowler's boss at the Walford Community Centre. He is first seen in May when he informs Ruth that there will be an important meeting at the Community Centre. When she misses the meeting, Tom fills her in later in the day and tells her that they've been forced to introduce rationalisation as Walford Council have announced that they will be making cutbacks on all the play schemes in the Borough. She is to take voluntary redundancy or reduce her working hours.
In August, he tells Ruth that some of the parents have some concerns about about the HIV risk to their children after it was revealed that her partner, Mark Fowler, is HIV positive. He asks Ruth if Mark would come in and explain his illness to the parents, which he does.
In November, Ruth speaks to Tom about concerns she has for one of the children, a boy called Adam, because of his mood swings and the bruising on his arm. Tom tells her that he that he doesn't see any evidence of emotional disturbance.
