Edward 'Teddy' Mitchell is the son of Stevie Mitchell and Connie Mitchell, the half-brother of Billy Mitchell and the father of Harry Mitchell as well as the legal father of Barney Mitchell. He is also the ex-husband of Nicola Mitchell. He made his first appearance on 26 June 2024. He is portrayed by Roland Manookian.
Storylines[]
After receiving a phone call about his father, Stevie Mitchell being hospitalised, Teddy arrives at Walford General Hospital with his sons Harry and Barney Mitchell. Teddy speaks to Stevie but Stevie is dismissive of them.
Teddy later comes to Walford with Harry and Barney, and Teddy finds a key to get into 18 Albert Square where Stevie was knocked out in order to find out what happened, but is caught by Honey Mitchell who tells him to leave. when Stevie leaves the hospital, he arrives at The Queen Victoria where Teddy, Harry and Barney come in and meet their relatives; Phil, Billy, Will and others. Stevie then reveals that Teddy and Billy are half-brothers - meaning Harry and Barney are Billy's nephews. Billy initially believes that this is a con and is distraught to meet the new Mitchells, however tensions eventually fall and Teddy gets to know his brother and his family.
When Will reveals that he was the one who hospitalised Stevie, Harry and the other Mitchell's are angered to learn this, but Will is calmed down by his parents - despite Harry's anger. Some time after, Teddy tries to befriend his cousin Phil, however he shows aggression. Harry stands up to Phil once again and they threaten each other, and Phil walks away. Harry later makes a joke about 1 Albert Square to Chelsea Fox which angers her due to her past abusive relationship with Gray Atkins and the death of Chantelle occurring there. However, Teddy forces Harry to make amends with Chelsea. They then stir up a lie as to why they moved to Walford, hiding from a "you-know-who".
Teddy later bonds with Sharon Watts flirtatiously, initially setting a bad impression but bonding after he takes her out for a drink and they meet properly. When Reiss Colwell gets into debt with Phil and Sharon, it is revealed to Phil that Reiss is discreetly scamming Sharon by transferring some of her money to his account for personal use, and saying that she has to pay more tax, which causes Phil to furiously threaten him. Teddy calms down Phil, and finds a compromise with Reiss to make payments which will cover the debt.
Following a misunderstanding after Avani Nandra-Hart lies about Barney being her boyfriend and her real, older boyfriend Mason injures her when she refuses to sleep with him, Davinder Gulati tells Ravi Gulati about Avani's boyfriend's phone contact being named 'M', Ravi assumes it is Barney and tracks him down and holds him over the railway bridge. To avenge Barney, Teddy and Harry burn down the Panesar family's KJP Pest Control call centre.
Barney and Teddy play a game of chess at the table and talk things through, with Teddy putting pressure on Barney to carry out self-defence classes and act more like a man which Barney clearly dislikes the idea of. Teddy discusses this with Billy Mitchell and he is advised to treat Barney better and allow him to be who he wants to be in order to prevent him from turning out like Ben Mitchell. Teddy later returns home and apologises to Barney.
Teddy, Barney and Harry settle down to watch a football game. However, as the game is ongoing, Barney leaves the room and calls his mother Nicola Mitchell, who had spent time in prison. After Harry finds out about his brother being in contact with their mother, he tells this news to Teddy, and to his distaste attempts to try and talk to Barney about it. However, Teddy is too late, as he finds a letter on the table from Barney which states that he has left the Square temporarily to visit Nicola, who is supposedly back in London. On 4 November 2024, Barney returns to Walford the visit. Teddy and Harry spot him walking past the Arches, Teddy tries talking to Barney but he appears distant. Teddy tells Harry to try and have a word with Barney to ask him about how it went on with his mother. Later that day, Teddy looks up at the 'for sale' sign at Peggy's and tells Harry that he may know how to get Barney on board, implying that he is looking into buying the club. Harry then decides to take Barney out for lunch at Beale's Eels. He tries to discuss their mother with Barney, asking him if she fed him and saying that she doesn't even deserve the name of 'mum'. This causes Barney to become annoyed and he refers to Teddy as 'him', causing Harry to flip out and push Barney's pie off of his plate and onto his lap. Teddy walks in and sees the mini conflict; looking at Harry with disgust, he takes Barney out of Beale's Eels and back to school.
Nicola later arrives in Walford and attempts to reconnect with her sons which infuriates Teddy due to her scheming ways, their divorce, and spending time in prison. Teddy's frustration with Nicola increases as she makes persistent attempts to sabotage his relationship with Sharon. When the Queen Victoria explodes, Barney is left with multiple injuries and an infection. Zack Hudson, who had previously had an affair with Nicola, comes to the hospital with Barney and hears that Teddy and Barney's blood types do not match, making Zack Barney's biological father. Zack attempts to pressure Nicola into telling Teddy the truth, but instead Nicola orders an attack on Zack in Harry's Barn. This causes multiple altercations between Sharon and Nicola, including a fight where Nicola is punched by Sharon. When Barney finds out that Sharon cheated on Teddy through an affair with Grant Mitchell after Martin Fowler's death, Barney reveals this to Teddy which ends his relationship with Sharon. Nicola further warns Zack not to expose Barney's paternity as Teddy is capable of murder, after revealing he murdered Harry's girlfriend, Shireen Bashar. She later asks her former henchman, Benji, where Shireen is buried, thus meaning that she was the one who ordered Shireen's death.
Teddy rekindles his relationship with Nicola after they sleep together.
