Stephen "Stevie" Mitchell is the ex-husband of Val and Connie Mitchell, the father of Charlie, Billy and Teddy Mitchell, the grandfather of Jamie Mitchell, Dan Pearce, Will and Janet Mitchell, the great grandfather of Lola Pearce-Brown and the great great grandfather of Lexi Pearce. He made his first appearance on 15 January 2024 and last on 11 July 2024. He was portrayed by Alan Ford.
Backstory[]
Stevie Mitchell was born on 8 July 1935 in East London to Kenneth and Barbara Mitchell.
In the 1950s, he married Val Mitchell and they had two sons, [[Charlie Mitchell]|Charlie] in 1956 and Billy in 1959. Stevie put ten year-old Billy in foster care, however he took full custody of his brother Charlie - leaving Billy in foster care.
At some point afterwards, Stevie married Connie Mitchell who gave birth to Teddy.
Storylines[]
2022: 1979 Flashback[]
Stevie appeared in a flashback episode on 5 September 2022, where he was involved in a burglary that resulted in the death of Malcom Keeble.
2024: Reunion with Billy Mitchell and secret family[]
Stevie returns in January 2024 for the funeral of Sal Martin, where he is told to leave by Phil Mitchell and it is clear the pair dislike each other.
In April, Stevie arrives in Albert Square, where he tries to reconnect with his family. It is made clear that he and Billy are estranged and that they haven't seen each other for many years.
When Mo Harris returns to the Square, she takes a liking to Stevie and they quickly become a couple.
Will Mitchell tells Stevie when he is being catfished and blackmailed by Kyle and he and Mo attempt to sell stolen toasters to raise the £300 that Will needs. Honey Mitchell shuts down the sale as they don't have a proper pitch and they are forced to give away the money to Lola's charity fundraiser. Later in the evening, it becomes apparent that the charity money has been stolen and Phil quickly blames Stevie. Stevie confronts Will, who he believes has stolen the money, and Will pushes him, resulting in him being hospitalised.
Whilst in the hospital, Phil continues to try and blame Stevie and Teddy, Stevie's secret son, shows up. Billy later confronts Stevie about stealing the charity money and Will confesses to his wrongdoing.
On 8 July 2024, Billy throws a surprise birthday party for his father, however, Phil, still suspicious of Stevie, gets Ritchie Scott to dig into his past. Phil later forces Stevie to confess what he has found out, resulting in Billy discovering that his mother is dead and it was Stevie's fault. Stevie's wife, Val had walked in on him in bed with Connie Mitchell, Teddy's mum. She had walked out and committed suicide in a nearby B&B a few days later.
