Scotland is a Country within The United Kingdom with a population of 5.454 million people it is country full of land. It is bordered by England to the South, and with its mountain wildernesses such as the Cairngorms and Northwest Highlands, interspersed with glacial glens (valleys) and lochs (lakes). Its major cities are Edinburgh, the capital, with its iconic hilltop castle, and Glasgow, famed for its vibrant cultural scene. Scotland is also famous for golf; the game first played at the Old Course at St Andrews in the 1400s. Scotland exists in the EastEnders universe with many characters who have visited or are from there.
Ricky Butcher and Sam Mitchell eloped to Gretna Green in 1991 to get married, causing chaos between the Mitchell Family and Butcher Family. Ruth Fowler was born in the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh and currently lives there with Conor Flaherty, their child and his daughter Mary. Trisha and Ray Taylor the parents of Leo and grandparents of Aleesha Miller arranged to move away to Scotland in 2005 leading to Leo running away with Demi Miller and Aleesha and him taking an overdose when he believes that Demi is dead.
Nigel Bates moved to Scotland in April 1998 with Julie Haye, her son Josh Saunders and his adoptive-daughter Clare. However, Clare returned to the Square in 2008. In 2006 it was stated that the Mitchell family originated from Scotland. In the mid-1990s, Michelle Fowler planned to move to Scotland with daughter Vicki and boyfriend Geoff Barnes, however, at last minute backed down.
Janine Butcher and Barry Evans got married in Scotland on New Year's Eve in 2003. However, after believing for months that Barry was dying, Janine was stunned when she found out he was going to live and in the act of evilness pushed Barry off a cliff.
In 2022, Dana Monroe moved to Glasgow to attend university to become a nurse. Later in the year, Esme and her family move to Scotland and invite Esme's Teaching assistant, Frankie Lewis to join them.
In 2024, Theo Hawthorne is released from prison and bailed to Scotland. In 2025, Zack Hudson gets involved with Nicola Mitchell, and she finds out where Whitney Dean and the kids live. Because of this, Whitney is forced to move to Inverness with Dolly Dean-Hudson and Britney Wainwright.
