Sandra "Sandy" Gibson is the mother of Dotty Cotton, she made her first appearance on 16 February 2010. She is portrayed by Caroline Pegg in 2010, and Martha Cope from 2021.
Backstory[]
Sandy is an alcoholic woman, who met Nick Cotton at a squat after He was relielasd from Blackmoor Prison back in early 2000, the two of them had a one night stand together, which lead to Sandy becaming pregnent with their daughter Dotty Cotton as a result to that one night stand that Nick and Sandy had.
On 1 February 2001, Sandy gave birth to their daughter Dotty, but it wasnt until quite sometime later until Nick actually found out Dotty, when Nick went back to prison again, sometime after He left Walford due to the fall out of his son Ashley Cotton's death back in June 2001, He recevied a letter from Sandy, revealing to Nick, that she had given birth to their daughter Dotty.
Since Nick found out his daughter about Dotty, it's bealived that He came out of prison and started a realationship with Sandy, and finally got to met his daughter Dotty, and moved in with them both until Nick went back inside once more in the prior to 2006, but very little is known over this story.
When Nick made an early release from prison in April 2008, he ended up taking custody of there daughter Dotty, with Nick lying to Dotty, telling her that her mother Sandy was tragically killed in a car crash.

Sandy turns up at Dot Branning's house looking for her daughter, Kirsty, but Dot says she knows nobody of that name. Dot and Sandy meet up in the café and Sandy says she was an alcoholic but gave up the day Dotty's "father", Nick Cotton took her away. Dot later decides to tell Dotty about her mother, who wants to see her. After Sandy visits Dotty, Dot decides that she should live with her mother. Dotty receives an emotional send-off from Dot as she and Sandy leave the Square. In October 2010 during a conversation with Grace Olubunmi, Dot refers to Sandy as her daughter-in-law, suggesting that Sandy is or once was married to Nick Cotton.
2021: Return and final departure[]
Eleven years later Sandy returns and gatecrashes a private party at Ruby's. She is subsequently ordered to leave by Vinny Panesar. Sandy refuses to and she is bounced by club security. Sonia Fowler finds Sandy drunk in the street, demanding to see Dotty. Sandy then returns to the club and causes a commotion much to Dotty's shock. An argument ensues where Sandy berates Dotty and Dotty discovers needle tracks on her arms, confirming she is using again. When Dotty asks Sandy what she wants, She tells her she wants money. After months of providing money and drugs and finding Sandy a B&B and rehab, Sandy leaves Walford on Christmas Day after Tom Cotton is exposed. She then tells Dotty that he is her father. However, this was proven to be a cruel lie, as Tom tells Dotty that he never slept with Sandy.
