Phil McDermott is a British-Irish actor who portrayed Trevor Short in EastEnders from 1989 to 1990.

Phil McDermott heard the EastEnders team were looking for a tall Scot to play Trevor, the dim-witted odd job man who drifted into Albert Square. As he's short, comes from an Irish family and is brightly articulate, the Londoner knew some serious acting was required. He landed the job by crying for five minutes on cue and grew to like Trevor.

He also had sympathy for a young man who had drifted: Phil was a trainee priest who forswore the cloth, then took up scrap metal work, weighbridge operating and carpentry before going to drama school.
