Patrick Neville Loftus Alfonzo Trueman is a long-standing resident of Albert Square. He is the estranged husband of Sheree Trueman and the father of Paul and Anthony Trueman as well as Isaac Baptiste. He is also the father figure of sisters Denise and Kim Fox. He made his first appearance on 13 September 2001. He is portrayed by Rudolph Walker.

Backstory[]

Patrick Neville Loftus Alfonzo Trueman was born on the 26th June 1940, in Trinidad to his father, and mother Eleanor Trueman.

Patrick was a singer in the band The Five Hectors, alongside Cedric Lucas, Aubrey Valentine, Dwight and Earl. During this time he met Emerald Fox. Patrick met Ruth in the 1950s, later getting engaged to her in 1958. They never got married however, as his fiancée Ruth was murdered by Tommy Clifford during the 1958 Notting Hill race riots, when he set fire to the building that Ruth was in, causing her to die in the fire.

A few years later, Patrick got into a relationship with Renee de Boyne, who was supposed to be a contestant of the Miss Trinidad and Tobago 1963 competition, but she was disqualified after she and Patrick were found to be in a relationship by her father Presbyterian Pastor. Patrick never saw her again.

In the 1960s, Patrick met Audrey Carter and they soon fell in love, leading to Audrey getting pregnant with their son, Paul - however it is later revealed that Paul is not Patrick’s biological son. Before Paul is born, Patrick and Audrey have a shotgun wedding. Audrey once again gets pregnant, now with Anthony, however Patrick leaves Audrey shortly after Anthony is born in the early 1970s.

In 1986, Patrick has a short-loved relationship with Sheree Baptiste, causing the conception of their son, Isaac.

Storylines[]

2001-2006: Arrival, reuniting with his family, marrying Yolande and Paul's death[]

Patrick arrives in Walford for his former wife Audrey Trueman's funeral, reuniting with his two sons, Paul Trueman and Anthony Trueman, after decades apart. After purchasing the Minute Mart grocery store, Patrick and Yolande run the business together.

2007-2012: Being attacked, meeting Tommy, feud with Phil and Heather's murder[]

However, Patrick tires of her quickly and Liz moves away when it is revealed that Lucas is a killer who has murdered her son, Owen Turner.

2013-2018: Stroke and relationship with Claudette[]

2019-2024: Marriage to Sheree and reunion with Yolande[]

Patrick later gets married to Sheree Baptiste, and eventually finds out he is the biological father of her son Isaac Baptiste. Patrick tries to tell Isaac this on The Smith-Holland, but Sheree tells him not to. After the boat begins to sink, Patrick, Sheree and Isaac escape and Patrick is quickly rushed to hospital.

It is later revealed by Denise Fox the Patrick has contracted COVID-19 during the 2020 lockdown and Anthony Trueman is looking after him. Once Patrick recovers from COVID, he returns on 15 December 2020. After Denise gets back custody of her estranged son Raymond Dawkins, Phil pressures Patrick into letting him see Raymond. They then meet Phil at McKlunky's and later the park. When Denise finds out, she is rows with Patrick as she is worried for Raymond's safety, even more so when Denise's ex-husband, Lucas Johnson, returns and fearing the she and Raymond may be in trouble, tells Phil to have him attacked. Denise temporarily hides at boyfriend Jack Branning's house, and Lucas calls at Patrick's house in hopes of seeing Denise, however this leads to Lucas and Patrick having an argument with him revealing he was the one to have him beat up instead of Denise. Patrick becomes increasingly angry, resulting in him collapsing and suffering another stroke. Lucas reluctantly calls and ambulance and flees the scene, leading to Patrick being rushed to hospital, saving Patrick's life. Patrick later slowly says Lucas' name, revealing to Denise he was at the scene and could have potentially caused the stroke.

When Patrick finds out about Isaac's schizophrenia, he is upset that he didn't know sooner but tries to support him in every way possible. He becomes becomes obsessed with Ruby Allen, convinced that her father Johnny Allen was responsible for his brother Paul's death and that she is covering it up. Isaac tells his theories to Patrick, but Patrick doesn't understand. Isaac then admits that he stole Johnny's business diaries from Ruby's house, causing Patrick to become worried about Isaac's condition. Isaac starts to deteriorate, until he tries to break into Ruby's house again, this time to kidnap Lily Slater, Arthur Fowler Jr and Hope Fowler to try and get them away from Ruby. This causes the kids to go missing and for the police to taser and arrest Isaac. He is then sectioned.

Eventually, Isaac gets better and Allows his family back into his life, however their family life doesn't last long after Patrick and Sheree fall out. She tells Patrick that they need a short break and tries to leave permanently with him and Isaac, disguising it as a short holiday to Trinidad. At the same time, she gets patrick to unknowingly sign a contract to sell the Fox & Hair salon as well as selling the house. She also tells Walford Primary School that a family tragedy has happened in Trinidad and that Isaac has left to take care of it, whilst telling Isaac that they didn't want him back after his schizophrenia episodes. Denise exposes Sheree and Sheree leaves in a taxi, telling the taxi driver Harvey Monroe to give Patrick her wedding ring.

In February 2023, Denzel Danes enters a non-fiction writing contest and wins, however, he copied the plot from a series Amy Mitchell had made him watch. When the Walford Gazette gets in touch wanting an interview, Denzel panics, however Howie helps him get through it. The gazette later want an interview with his grandparents he'd talked about in the story, however his grandmother lives in the Caribbean, so Howie hatches a plan involving Patrick to act as Denzel's grandad, and gets Vi Highway to act as his step-grandmother. The gazette love the interview, and later ask them back for a second one, which they agree to do. When returning from the second interview, Vi receives a call from an unknown number, which later turns out to be Stuart Highway, who invites her to live with them as a live-in nanny for Roland Highway, which she accepts, leaving the square for another part of London which she says is only an hour away. After Vi's departure, after pretending to have been with Vi, Patrick realises that Yolande Trueman is his one true love and temporarily leaves Walford to try and win her back. However, before he goes he invites Kim, Denzel and his father, Howie Danes to dinner and give Denzel some money so he can treat Amy. During his time away. he embarks on a secret affair with Yolande.

In May 2023, Patrick returns via a video call to talk to Lola Pearce-Brown. When Patrick returns to Walford, he is unhappy that he wasn't told about Kim's struggles after she crashed into The Argee Bhajee, and Denise's struggles with her marriage to Jack after her affair with Ravi Gulati. He advises Jack to show Denise how much he loves her in order to save their marriage by buying her gifts and spending more time with her.

In August 2023, Yolande returns to Walford when her ex-partner, Anton, kicks her out of their house in Birmingham after he found out about Patrick and Yolande's affair. Yolande asks Patrick if she can stay with him, but he is reluctant so Yolande decides to stay with Denise at 20 Albert Square for the night. After some convincing from Amy Mitchell and Denzel Danes, Patrick changes his mind about Yolande and as she is about to leave, he runs to Walford East Tube Station and convinces Yolande to remain in Walford. Patrick and Yolande later get back together after a heart-to heart and dance in the laundrette.

Anton turns up in Walford to win Yolande back and discovers that Yolande is now in a relationship with Patrick. Patrick and Anton get into a heated row and Anton grabs Patrick but he is restrained by Yolande, Anton later tells Yolande that he is going back to Birmingham and he wants her to come back with him. The next day Yolande reveals to Patrick that Anton tricked her into giving him the passcode for the safe in the church and threatened to frame her if she left him. Patrick texts Anton on Yolande's phone and confronts him, Anton admits to stealing from the church unaware that Patrick is recording him. Patrick then blackmails Anton to leave or he will give the recording to the police.
