Storylines[]
A father of a family of six who were living in a one bedroom flat. They became an urgent case for Walford Council and Michelle Fowler was sent by her boss to assess their situation. They had an ongoing roof leak which had blown the electrics in their home. The exposure to damp and mould had resulted in their daughter becoming sick with a cough. Their position on the housing waiting list wasn't improving. Michelle was horrified to see their living conditions and tells Mr Parker that she will arrange the repairs and review their place on the waiting list.
Michelle visits the following week and is appalled to find that none of the repairs had been carried out. They were still without electricity and their child's cough had got worse. She personally promised to get them rehoused.
The week after, Michelle is informed by her boss that the Parker family had been made a priority and that a maisonette had become available for them to move into. She goes to visit them to deliver the good news, but is informed by a neighbour that they were staying with relatives because their daughter had died from acute respiratory failure two days ago.
Michelle attended the funeral on 21 September and Mr Parker thanked her for coming. As they weren't on Housing Benefit, they weren't entitled to any bereavement benefits from the council. This meant the family could only afford to have their daughter buried into a communal grave with twelve other children.
