I’m replying on behalf of Sam4293, who has now logged out of the Wiki for tonight. Sam4293 will be active again tomorrow and will respond to your queries then. In the meantime, please refrain from changing the character templates until the matter has been discussed and a conclusion has been reached.
Whilst I appreciate that you prefer the old template we used to use for characters, it was concluded by general consensus between the admins, and myself, that a new template was needed as part of our plans to redesign and update the Wiki. This new template may take some time to get used to but, generally, it seems to have generated positive feedback and is much more visually appealing than it used to be. I hope you understand our reasons for the template redesign, and I have no doubt that Sam will tell you the same when I politely ask that you leave the new character templates as they are and do not tamper with the pages to change it back to the old template.
Of course, I will let Sam give his verdict on this situation and I must further add that my reply is entirely my view on this situation and not Sam’s, so I will let him give his opinion too.
An awful lot of consideration went into redesigning the templates. The Wikia needed a major redesign and this was just one of the many changes that were made. The template will take time to adapt to, but I'm afraid we will not be reverting back to the old one.
I'm afraid the old template won't be returning on an agreement between the admins and me.
Also checking the templates page, you didn't create the template, Kelvin did? So why did you come across as it was your template? I've also noticed a lot of your contributions have been just reverting and adding the template to character pages and nothing else? If we were going to look into changing the template back, we would need an audience of more than one person who doesn't like it, so if you could collaborate proof on all of these friends of yours that don't like it, it may benefit your count.
The amount of people we need doesn't come into consideration. It's the proof we are provided with that people don't like our design. Unfortunately, we couldn't necessarily take into a chronicle, lots of accounts posting on this chat saying they don't want the template as for all we know that could be another account you use or an account created by you.
Yeah sure, once a character has appeared on-screen then they can get a page created. Although all I ask is that you use a screenshot rather than a promotional picture as the BBC started getting a bit strict, and we don't want our site being closed down.
I feel the editors on the Wiki would be a lot more productive if a to-do list was created - at the moment anybody outside of the admins is randomly editing things: I think things would be done a lot quicker if there was a list of things to do.
I was meaning to do this awhile ago, I'll start to collaborate one once I get the chance, thanks for reminding me to do this! We also need to think of an initial design for the page, Kelvin did create a To-do list, the link is here - EastEnders Wiki:To do list, however, it was established in 2015, so it's quite old and needs updating.
The significant recent change had come about when the BBC started getting strict about how their promotional images are being used, that's the reason the promos have been removed because quite frankly we don't want to take the risk of the site being closed down and everybody's hard work being lost.
As for the gallery section, the other admins and I concluded removing this as it isn't necessary and it clogs up the site with things that aren't needed.
The site has been due with a new regime for a while. We are hoping to have a standard plot, cast list and filming location for every episode.
The other admins and I will be creating a manual of style, a bit like the Corriepedia site has done so when users come along, they know how the new regime is to work.
You will need to find a bigger background image as on my desktop computer its at 100% and it does not fill the screen I recommend at least 1920x1080 px. On small devices it will downscale but it can't seem to upscale.
As much as we all deserve our own opinions, we also have to take into consideration on the way our words may effect some people. Your comment may have offended the person who created the new design. I'm presuming and hoping you didn't mean it intentionally, just think before you type in future :)
