Maria Friedman (née Freedman; born 19th March 1960 in Switzerland) is a English actress and director of stage and screen who portrayed Elaine Peacock in EastEnders between October 2014 and June 2017. In 2023, the role was recast with Harriet Thorpe taking over the role of Elaine.
Best known for her work in musical theatre, Friedman's other television credits include roles in Red Dwarf, Casualty, Frank Stubbs, In Deep, Dangerous Liaisons and Unforgotten.
