Launderette[]

The Launderette, formerly Bridge Street Launderette, is where people go to wash their clothes as they don't have washing machines at home.

The Launderette was owned by Mr Papadopolous until his death in 1992; the business passed to his son, Andonis Papadopolous and in 2016, it is passed to Andonis's son, Apostolos Papadopolous. The Papadopolous Family ran the business for over 50 years until it was sold in June 2021. The current owner is Kat Mitchell.

On 14 April 1985, Pauline Fowler is heard saying the Launderette's telephone number "[8026|503 8026]". Dot also says this number on 13 March 1990 when she's waiting for a call back about her bingo win. Being in London the full number up until May 1990 would have been "[503 8026|01 503 8026]".

The Launderette contains 6 Washing Machines, 2 Tumble Dryers and 1 Spin Dryer. The cost of washing your clothes in Launderette in 2010 was £9.

Dot Branning started working at the launderette on 11th October 1961. Smoking has been banned in the launderette since 2007. Dot was given her final notice on her last months working there. On Christmas Eve 2016, Dot officially retired from working there after fifty-five years. After nearly two and a half years of closure the Launderette reopened in January 2018, with Karen Taylor being the first new employee.

In June 2021, the business was put up for sale and then bought by Phil Mitchell as a gift for Kat Slater who made plans to use the back of the launderette as a minicab service, following in the footsteps of her late dad Charlie Slater. On 5 July 2022, Karen stated that the laundrette is equipped with a toilet.
