Kamil Masood is the son of Masood Ahmed and Zainab Khan. He made his first appearance on 23 February 2010 and last on 17 November 2016. He was portrayed by Arian Chikhlia.

Backstory[]

In August 2009, Zainab is forced to come to terms with the fact that she is 15 weeks pregnant in her mid-40s and the pregnancy means that her and Masood's plans to see the world have to be cancelled. Zainab is terrified due to her age and the fact a baby will interfere with her career. She feels trapped because she does not want the baby but abortion is forbidden by her faith.

Storylines[]

2010-2013: Birth, family problems and leaving Walford[]

In February 2010, Zainab becomes locked inside her office - unable to contact anyone - when her labour starts. She is found by Christian Clarke who contacts Masood and his two sons Syed Masood and Tamwar Masood. Christian calls for an ambulance, but the baby starts to come so Christian passes on instructions while Masood delivers the baby. Kamil is not breathing when he is born, so Christian instructs Masood to perform CPR, saving the infant's life. Zainab is then taken to hospital where she and Masood name their son.

Kamil's parents divorce and Zainab marries Yusef Khan in December 2011. Yusef wants to move to Pakistan and, fearful that Zainab will not go with him, he kidnaps Kamil. He tells Zainab that he is being kept in a safe place. Yusef later reveals that he has left him with an old friend called Laila. Masood manages to get Laila's address and goes to retrieve Kamil. Laila refuses to let Masood in as Yusef had told her that Masood was dead, but Masood forces his way in and takes back his son. Yusef dies soon after and Kamil's parents reunite.

When his parents separate again in February 2013, Kamil leaves Walford with his mother to live in Pakistan. Kamil returns at the end of July 2013 when Masood brings him back. During this time Kamil bonds with his uncle AJ Ahmed and then later leaves again in October 2013 and goes back to Pakistan.

2015-2017: Return, meeting sister Shabnam Masood and going travelling[]

In November 2015, Zainab sends Kamil to Walford to meet his sister Shabnam Masood for the first time and attend her wedding. Masood later contacts Zainab and refuses her access to Kamil unless she comes back to Walford.

In December 2015, Kamil auditions for the lead part of Joseph in the Walford Nativity play, a part which Shabnam is unsure of.

When Zainab decides to get remarried she sends for Kamil; Tamwar and his girlfriend Nancy Carter accompany him on the flight to Pakistan before continuing in their travels around the world. Kamil returns to his father in Walford in May 2016.

Masood reveals that he has booked for him and Kamil to go travelling for 10 months. Friends Denise Fox and Carmel Kazemi think it is not a good idea as it would mean taking Kamil out of school and Carmel will miss Masood. However, Masood is adamant on going and Carmel is later stunned when she notices Masood's house is up for let. Denise and Carmel think Masood is suffering a midlife crisis. Masood and Kamil leave to go travelling in September 2016.

Masood returns a few weeks later with Kamil and is shocked to find that Carmel and her youngest son Shakil Kazemi have moved into his house. Masood is forced to move in with them but claims that he is back because Kamil was homesick, though he admits to Jane Beale that he missed Carmel. However, Masood and Carmel end up arguing over Carmel's furniture and things between them grow tense when she accuses him of being lazy and badly influencing Shakil.

Masood later grows close to Belinda Peacock when attempting to help her salon business, "Elysium", out of financial difficulty. They later agree that they are attracted to each other, but she wants him to invest money so he makes her choose either the money or a relationship, so she opts for the latter.

Masood hears that Zainab is getting divorced and calls her in Pakistan to comfort her and he books two tickets to Pakistan, while Belinda leaves Walford to go travelling with a friend. Carmel tries to stop Masood leaving but he insists that he is doing what is best for Kamil. Denise is against him leaving and they have a falling out, but Carmel warns her not to let things end badly, so they make amends and he explains that all he sees in Walford is ghosts of the past. Masood says goodbye to his friends and leaves Walford with Kamil, with Jane saying they will always be here if he needs them. He and Kamil then leave, returning to Pakistan.
