Hazel made her first appearance 16 May 1989 and last on 27 February 1990. She was portrayed by Virginia Fiol.
Storylines[]
A sharp little piece, Hazel is a former girlfriend of Nick Cotton. She conned Dot Cotton into believing that Nick was the father of her baby Dorothy Nicola (named after Dot and Nick). Dot was overjoyed at being given a grandchild and helped Hazel out with money, but finally discovered the girl was lying. The baby belonged not to Hazel, but her sister and the child's name was Katy Joanna. Hazel apologised, soft-hearted Dot forgave her and Hazel met and fancied Rod the punk. Nick beat her up and put her in hospital, but Rod visited, and he and Hazel became a couple. He helped her to mend her ways, and they lived together for a while, eventually squatting Colin Russel's vacant flat. Hazel soon grew tired of Walford and wanted to go travelling with Rod, but he never managed to get any plans together, creating a rift which ended with her leaving him.Hazel visits Rod a month later in the cafe with her new boyfriend, to say a quick goodbye on her way to the coach station to go backpacking around Europe. Rod realises she had been right and he'd become too rooted in Albert Square and day-to-day drudgery. Her final farewell prompts him to go travelling around India, and he leaves Walford that afternoon.
