Gemma Charleston made her only appearance on 30 June 2010. She was portrayed by Rita Balogun.

Storylines[]

2010: death[]

Gemma was a prostitute who asks Lucas Johnson if he wants some company. However, when he sees her red dress which is exactly like Denise Johnson's dress and the crucifix around her neck, the scene ends. Off-screen, Lucas murders Gemma and bricks her teeth so out so she could not be identified and placed her body in the same canal that he had attempted to kill Denise at prior. He then identifies the body as that of his wife Denise, who he has locked in a basement after she found out Lucas had killed Trina Johnson and Owen Turner. He couldn't go through with killing Denise, so Lucas then locks Denise in the basement of the house next door to his house.

Denise's fake funeral takes place with Gemma's body, but when Denise is found to be alive, Gemma has her own funeral on 6 August 2010, with Denise and Patrick Trueman as the only attendants. The vicar says that none of Gemma's family could be traced, her funeral has been paid for by a charity and she will be buried in a mass grave.

Post death[]

Gemma was wrongly identified by Denise's family as Denise after Denise had been missing, Gemma was then buried in a grave that was for Denise, however six days later Denise escaped from the basement and Lucas' family begged him to admit to the murders, to which Lucas complied and he was arrested and charged, Gemma's grave was then changed from Denise Johnson to Gemma Charleston.

Background information[]

  • Gemma has an almost identical resemblance to Denise, as Gemma was identified by Denise's family as Denise meaning they would have been of similar age and appearance.
