Gary Powell is a British actor who appeared as Laurie Bates in EastEnders from 1989 to 1990.

In 1999, Powell was sentenced to court after being accused of taking part in a gang-rape. However, he was found not guilty. His first television role came in 1988 when he appeared in the television mini-series Blind Justice portraying P.C. Mines for one episode and then in 1989 in the series Rules of Engagement portraying Guard Corporal.

His first big break came when landed the role of Laurie in EastEnders, a role he remained in for five months. His storylines on the show mainly focused on his relationship with Kathy Beale. After leaving the soap, Powell has gone on to appear in productions such as Minder, Inspector Morse, A Touch of Frost, Doctor, The Bill, Holby City and Law & Order: UK. His last known contribution to television was in 2017 in the television series Silent Hours where he portrayed the character, Wilf Tanner.
