Every Loser Wins is a 1986 song written by Simon May, Stewart James and Bradley James for the BBC television soap opera EastEnders. It was performed by Nick Berry.

Written and produced by Simon May, Stewart James and Bradley James, the song was heavily featured in the BBC soap opera EastEnders throughout the summer of 1986, sung by Berry's character Simon Wicks "Wicksy " Wicks and his band, The Banned.

On release the song was a success spending three weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart in October and November 1986, becoming the second biggest-selling single in the UK that year (after "Don't Leave Me This Way" by The Communards). The composers Simon May, Stewart James and Bradley James, each received an Ivor Novello Award for the composition.

Lyrics[]

[Verse]
We nearly made it
We nearly found the perfect combination
The road was right, we must have read the signs wrong
And now it's all gone
But if we'd made it
Could we be sure that it was for the better
Who could say we would have stayed together
Nothing is certain
In a changing world

[Chorus]
Every loser wins
Once the dream begins
In time you'll see, fate holds the key
And every loser knows
The light the tunnel shows
Will shine on you
And all those who knew
That we could make it

[Verse 2]
But suddenly we seemed to stop and lose our way
But did it really matter anyway?
For that was yesterday
And we must live for now

[Chorus 2]
'Cause every loser wins
Once the dream begins
In time you'll see, fate holds the key
And every loser knows
The light the tunnel shows
Will shine on you
And all those who knew
That we could make it

[Outro]
Stand up and count me
I know your on my side
Shine down on me
And those who believe
That we can make it
