    Eastenders 1000th Episode Advert

In the actual EastEnders series canon, this episode is Episode 999. However the BBC advertised this as the 1000th episode, counting the 1988 prequel Civvy Street (set in 1942), as a regular episode.
  • This episode saw the wedding of Nigel Bates and Debbie Tyler.
  • Return of Ethel Skinner and Doctor Harold Legg, last seen on 23 December 1993. Doctor Harold Legg next appears on 25 December 1994.
  • Radio Times synopsis: The theme tune was changed - and changed back again; other soaps have come - and gone (remember Eldorado?); and it's now screened thrice-weekly. That Walford spirit has kept EastEnders on our screens since February 1985 and tonight, as the 1,000th episode rolls off the production line, it's Albert Square's staunch survivors, the Fowlers, who make sure things go with a swing. As Nigel and Debbie set off for the church, it's all hands on deck in Albert Square to give them a really special day. (The synopsis for this episode incorrectly states that this is the 1000th instalment for the show.)
  • Viewing Figures: UK broadcast - 16,280,000 viewers (chart placing unknown).
