| The Taverniers consider going to the tonight's bonfire.
Michelle agrees to get a car for Clyde to help him flee the country. Clyde asks her to bring Kofi to see him before he leaves the Square; she reluctantly agrees. Frank finds a motor for Arthur to purchase off him, so that he has a vehicle to drive once he has passed his test. Phil also has a car to flog and eyes up Arthur as the potential buyer. Michelle learns Arthur is looking into buying a car and encourages him to get it immediately, despite Pauline insisting they cannot afford it. She offers to chip in for half the cost of the car. Arthur test drives Phil's motor around the Square and likes the feel of it and the deal Phil makes, £500 plus his van - he buys it without telling Frank. Michelle insists she will look after the keys for Arthur so that he does not lose them. She takes the keys over to Clyde and tells him to leave when everyone is at the bonfire in the evening. Dot tells Pauline and Frank she saw Arthur, Michelle and Phil driving a car around the Square. Pauline thinks the car is stolen and orders Arthur to return it to Phil. Michelle heads over to Number 27 to fetch Kofi, but Jules tells her the kids can stay with him before they go to the bonfire tonight. Etta is unnerved when she comes across Nick in the Square. She decides the family should go to Bonfire Night. At the café, Pete tells Pauline he will leave if his presence is affecting her and Arthur's marriage. Arthur is delighted at the news, but Pauline tells him Pete can stay as long as he wants. Arthur gets the hump and storms off. Michelle apologizes to Clyde for not bringing Kofi to see him. He thanks her for everything she has done for him. Michelle tells him she would not do all this for just anyone; he understands. She becomes overwhelmed with emotion as they say their goodbyes and hug each other. Frank has a go at Phil for selling a car to Arthur, then later at Arthur for buying the car from Phil. The bonfire is lit, and the residents of Albert Square unite to watch it. The Taverniers turn up and join Michelle, Vicki and Martin in the festivities. Clyde prepares for his getaway, but as he goes to get in the car, he sees a father with his son walking through the Square towards him and is forced to hide. He stealthily makes his way towards the bonfire to look on Kofi before he leaves. On his way back to the car, Clyde is unnerved by the dispersing crowd and runs off. He climbs over a wall but falls and injures his shoulder. Clyde cannot operate the car with his injury, so he hides in the Square before spotting Michelle, Jules and the kids returning from the bonfire. Michelle notices her car is still parked outside Number 45 and is concerned. She returns to Number 55 worried for Clyde and is dismayed when Arthur turns up to stay the night - he refuses to go home and spend it with Pauline and Pete. Clyde tries to call Michelle using Turpin Road's phone box, but Arthur answers the phone; Nick spots him from afar and begins following him. Michelle sees him walking towards the house. Clyde meets with her outside Number 55, and they head to the allotments to keep him hidden. Nick smirks as he watches the pair from across the allotment. |
