The letters which spell 'The Queen Victoria' on the front of the pub are removed as Eddie prepares to rename it. Joe has a nasty cold. Pat thinks he should stay in bed. Dot ensures Nick is away from the door before entering the bedroom and giving him breakfast. He begs to be released and jolts for the door. Dot slams it shut and locks it before he can escape. Ian is furious about Joe's absence from work and tells Mark to fetch him immediately. While showing Hattie around the kitchens, Ian notices the steamer cooking equipment he just purchased is not functioning properly. He calls George and orders him to fix the equipment, or he will cancel his check. Frank frets to Pat about Diane's decision to stay longer in France. He thinks Mark could be persuaded to fetch her back home. Sharon watches the letters of the pub be taken down. Grant fetches the letters for Sharon as a keepsake, promising to put them back up when they buy a pub themselves. Eddie soon learns the letters were given to Grant and is not pleased. Mark finds Joe at the B&B and persuades him to return to work after he sees a doctor about his cold. Nick, suffering from withdrawal pains, tries to pick the bedroom lock in a desperate attempt to escape. Dot asks Pete to help her with Nick and they catch him trying to pick the lock. Joe begins working at the Meal Machine but stops when he keeps sneezing. George walks in to check the kitchens out and finds Joe working there. Joe realises his time is up and hands his notice in to Ian. He tells Ian that George threatened to tell him he was gay, so he has done it himself. Ian does not care about Joe's sexuality and fights to get him to return to work, but Joe refuses and walks out. Ian confronts George over Joe and learns he has AIDS. He is repulsed and wants the kitchens sanitised. Michelle is thrilled when Clyde is friendly towards her. They agree to walk their kids to school and pick them up together. Eddie gets a suspicious phone call from D.S. Manning, asking if he has talked to Clyde. Eddie tells him he has not had the chance yet. Joe decides he has to leave Albert Square and books out of the B&B, but is stopped by Mark, who encourages him to stick around. Pete puts extra bolts on the bedroom door to ensure Nick cannot get out. Nick retrieves a flick knife from under the mattress and begins trying to unscrew the screws in the boards at the window. Joe books back in the B&B, apologizing for the inconvenience. Mark tells Frank his relationship with Diane is over and refuses to fetch her from France. Back at the Meal Machine, Mark is furious with Ian when he catches him throwing away anything and everything that Joe has touched. |
