Summary[]

Chaos and panic ensues as the party goers struggle to comprehend what has happened. As the grave situation grows worse, multiple lives are left hanging in the balance and one person is set to meet a tragic end.

Ben demands that Phil puts the gun down, vowing to shoot him if he does not. Phil drops the gun and Keanu tries to escape. Ben follows and beats him, ordering him to tell him where Callum is. The pair end up in the Thames.

Callum lies among the rubbish, his whispers for help going unheard.

Captain Matthew Cox tells the partygoers to head to the upper deck. Ian goes against the captain's advice and heads to the lower deck. Mick cradles a trapped Linda as the water rises. Ian heads to the locker room to free a trapped Dennis but drops the keys. Dotty worries for Bex. Kush tends to her while Kat demands that Dotty heads for safety.

Martin turns up at number 25. Sonia leads him to Leo's lifeless body.

The water continues to rise at pace in the lower deck, almost submerging Linda and Mick. Mick heads underwater to try and free Linda's trapped ankle.

Peter comes face-to-face with an unconscious Bobby. He is conflicted by emotions.

Ian grabs a fire extinguisher and breaks down the door to the locker room. A panicked Dennis apologises to him for bullying Bobby.

Jack spies Ben's body floating in the Thames and drags him onto their lifeboat.

Linda is fully submerged in water. Mick feeds her oxygen and, realising time is almost up for them, goes ahead and yanks her ankle free.

Sharon gives birth to a baby boy.

Dennis is pulled through the door by Ian. Ian and Dennis prepare to swim out of the lower deck but are thrust by a sudden current which engulfs them. Linda and Mick surface. Linda is not breathing. Mick swims her over to Rainie and Stuart's lifeboat. She is given CPR and is revived.

Martin cannot understand how the police did not find Leo's body during their visit to inform Sonia about Bex's dodgy pills.

The partygoers arrive to safety and are greeted to emergency services. Denise is relieved to learn that Isaac and Patrick are safe and alive. Bex's unconscious body greets shore. Paramedics rush her to hospital. Whitney heads over to the police. She presents them with the knife and tells them what she has done. Ian and Dennis' body and brought to shore. Ian heads to hospital but Dennis is not breathing. Paramedics commence CPR but pronounce him dead when it is unsuccessful. Everyone is speechless.

Keanu visits Sharon in hospital. Her worst fears are confirmed when she asks Keanu where Dennis is. She wails uncontrollably.

Residents return to Albert Square following the disaster on the Thames. Linda accepts that she is an alcoholic and chooses her marriage.

Sharon blames herself for Dennis' death, telling Keanu that she promised Louise on his life she was not having an affair with him. She banishes him from Walford.

Ben helplessly cries out for Callum in the Square. Callum lies unconscious among the rubbish in the warehouse.

Whitney is taken to the police station.

Karen cries as she sees Keanu off at the train station, while Sharon is numb with grief.

Notes[]

  • Final appearance and death of Dennis Rickman.
  • Last appearance of Keanu Taylor until 13 December 2022.
  • Final appearance of Leo King.
  • Birth and first appearance of Kayden Watts.
  • This episode was broadcast at the later time of 8.30pm to avoid clashing with Coronation Street.
  • The opening and closing titles were altered to reflect the darker, more eerie, tone of the episode.
  • The events continued from the previous three episodes, showing the fate of the characters on the Smith-Holland.
  • As well as spending long nights along the Thames filming the on-location scenes, a spot of underwater filming also took place, which was done separately in a tank. Having no predicament on the weather, everything was filmed twice to support the continuity of the conditions along the Thames. The interior of the boat was a mixture of studio scenes and on-location ones. To avoid viewers noticing the interior scenes were studio-based, the set designer designed a set with a ceiling and four walls. However, the set itself had to be built by a special effects company to allow for the sinking and flooding.
  • The episode ended with a shot of a boat on the River Thames which zoomed out and merged into the aerial map. The doof-doof played over this.
  • Ray De-Haan was credited as the stunt co-ordinator and Sarah Lochlan, Kelly Dent, Joshua Ravenscroft, Al Holland, Andy Pilgrim, Gary Hoptrough, Glenn Marks and Richard Leggett were the stunt performers in this episode.
  • Radio Times synopsis: Panic ensues, as multiple lives hang in the balance.
  • Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 6,465,876 viewers (10th place).

Dialogue[]

MARTIN FOWLER: We need to call the police.

SONIA FOWLER: They've been here, haven't they? About Bex.

MARTIN FOWLER: Well, how did you get rid of them?

SONIA FOWLER: Played my trumpet. What do you think I did?!

MARTIN FOWLER: You said Whitney's not answering. And what if he’s hurt her? What if she is bleeding to death in some alley? Someone has got to find her. And we… We got to find Bex.

LINDA CARTER: I keep thinking about Sharon.

MICK CARTER: Yeah, we‘re going to be there for her. We’re going to support her, okay?

LINDA CARTER: I love you, Mick Carter.

MICK CARTER: I never thought you stopped.

LINDA CARTER: I know... I'm an alcoholic. But I want to stop. I choose our marriage. I choose you.
