Denise is forced to swallow her pride. Woody is shocked by what he sees.

Kim visits Denise, asking her to sign the community centre petition. Denise looks longingly at the bacon roll that Kim's brought with her. An email arrives revealing that Denise didn't get the job she went for. Kim flippantly suggests that Denise gets herself on benefits, claiming they're chucking money at people like her. She also suggests that Denise learns a trade, insisting that her GCSE isn't going to get her anywhere. Denise tells her to leave and Kim goes, taking Denise's last half biscuit with her. Hungry, Denise has a glass of water and looks at the food bank referral slip. When her Oyster card won't work, Denise is forced to walk to the food bank in a run-down part of town. Inside, a shell-shocked Denise looks around. Candice, a mother who's there with her small children, tells Denise it gets easier every time you come. Denise is mortified when she comes face to face with the volunteer assigned to help her and it turns out to be someone very familiar - Cora. She runs out of the building.

Carmel is thrilled to discover that Kush has signed up for online dating. Martin borrows Kush's phone and arranges a date with the woman Kush has matched with. Kim insists on seeing a picture of the woman. She lies to Kush that things are really starting to come together for Denise - with both job and romantic offers flooding in.

Johnny's surprised when he finds Whitney all dressed up. She claims that she feels better - Lee's moved on and she's going to do the same. Woody's concerned when he realises that Whitney's gone shopping without her purse and heads out in search of her. At the shopping centre, Whitney slips a scarf into her handbag, unaware she's being watched by a security camera. Woody's just arrived when a guard confronts Whitney. She shakes the man off and runs but is eventually cornered. The guard marches Whitney to a deserted stairway where he lecherously suggests they can sort this out without the police. As he reaches out to stroke her face, Woody bursts in, punches the guard and whisks Whitney away. Back at the Vic, Lady Di's been lying by the back door all day. Woody asks Whitney if that was the first time she's shoplifted. She moves in for a kiss but he pulls away, aware she's vulnerable. When Whitney asks what's wrong with her, he tells her that she's beautiful. Whitney kisses him again then leads him into Mick and Linda's bedroom. Later, post-coital, the pair feel awkward until Woody notes there are easier ways to get a bloke into bed. The tension broken, they're laughing when Mick appears in the bedroom doorway.

Honey's pleased with her new paintwork but gutted when Billy admits that he's spent all their money getting Konrad to do the decorating and has none left for furniture. He reveals a battered chair he found in a skip; Honey isn't impressed but Billy persuades her that up-cycling's fashionable. Honey can't wait for her new carpet to arrive. Dot offers Honey an old bureau of Ethel's but almost rescinds the offer when Honey outlines her plans to paint it blue and yellow. Concerned that Jack's hiding himself away, Dot and Honey visit number 27. They're shocked by the mess. Jack berates Honey, having realised that she's the police's witness. He then turns on Dot, sure that she'll side with Charlie, before telling the two women to get out.

Jane's concerned when she finds Ian planking. He reveals that he's joined an online community and befriended a weightlifter in Indiana, Randy. He's even considering a weight bench for the bedroom. Lauren's overslept; Steven claims that there's something wrong with their alarm clock. Ian decides to weigh himself and is thrilled to discover he's lost three pounds. Ian later lectures Jane and Martin about the vitamin content of a butternut squash. At the doctors, Jane's exasperated when Ian judges everyone in the waiting room but his smugness about his new healthy lifestyle evaporates when the doctor tells him that his fasting blood sugar reading was 7.4 and 7 is the threshold for diabetes. The doctor assures Ian that, with the right adjustments, he can lead a normal life but he walks out in shock.
