Summary[]

The Mitchells do their best to celebrate Phil's birthday - only for him to drop a bombshell. Dot is taken aback by Jack's methods at explaining Ronnie and Roxy's deaths to Ricky and Amy. She wonders whether it would be better for Matthew to go and live with Charlie - a thought that Glenda insists she keeps to herself. Babe continues to serve alcohol before hours.


Phil tells Sharon that he wants to adopt Dennis, so Sharon tells him that he is the father of Denise's baby but she is having him adopted; Phil goes to the hospital, telling Denise that he has rights. Patrick says that Sharon should be consulted. Sharon tells Phil that adoptive parents love their children as much as natural parents, but Phil decides that he wants to fight for his son. Denise tells Phil that their ages and lifestyles would make them unsuitable parents and that she is doing what is best for the baby. Phil finds his son and holds him, but then leaves the hospital, seemingly having accepted Denise's decision.

Jack upsets Ricky by telling him straight that Ronnie and Roxy are dead; he does not want to lie to the children. Dot tells Glenda that Matthew's father Charlie should get custody of Matthew but Glenda says it would break Jack's heart.

Babe secretly serves alcohol in the pub with her breakfasts despite having no licence to do so.
