A despondent Lee sits in front of an uneaten breakfast – Nancy reminds him that he can't keep avoiding her. Nancy admits to Tamwar that it's not a good time for her to move out and Tamwar fails to hide his disappointment. Dressed in his army uniform, Lee sits alone in the allotments drinking beer, having not gone to work. Outside the Vic, a man approaches Linda and Nancy and introduces himself as Sergeant Major Wallace; he's looking for Lee. Linda tries to convince Wallace to stay for a drink, but he politely declines. Nancy catches Wallace up and questions why he's really looking for Lee, but Wallace brushes it off as nothing important. Lee catches Wallace in the tube station and questions what he's doing in Walford. Wallace assures Lee that he covered for his work absence to his family but that it can't go on – he suggests that Lee speaks to a medical officer. Lee arrives back to the Vic to an enthusiastic Mick and Linda, checking that Wallace caught up with him. Lee makes his excuses and heads upstairs. Nancy finds Lee upstairs crying and begs to know what's wrong. Lee admits that he's been missing shifts at work. Jane and Ian arrive in the café and Carol berates Ian for storming into her house and screaming at Cindy. Jane nervously checks whether Cindy knows about her giving Carol money; Carol assures her that she doesn't. Jane and Ian try to downplay the situation and claims that the fight with Cindy was all a misunderstanding. Ian suggests that he will apologise to Cindy but Jane declares that she'll sort it. Jane finds Cindy in the Butchers' and apologises on Ian's behalf. Cindy refuses to listen and claims that she's been left on the outside, again. Jane invites Cindy over for dinner that evening, wanting to prove to Cindy that she belongs at home. Jane arrives back at the house and informs Ian that they have a guest for dinner – just as Cindy shows up. Ian and Jane are pleasantly surprised when Cindy informs them that she got into sixth form. When Cindy brings up Ian shouting at her and Ian suggests that he thought Jane sorted it – Cindy storms out, believing that she's nothing more than a problem to them. Cindy arrives back at the Butchers' and immediately feels more at home. An exhausted Kim asks Denise whether she will pop out and get nappies for her, but Denise declines – she's got to go to a 'back to work' course at the job centre. Vincent arrives and Kim tries to rope him into sticking around, but Vincent claims he has a rep to meet back at The Albert. Denise is unsympathetic to Kim's exhausted complaints on her return. Kim has a brainwave and suggests that Denise can be Pearl's nanny, but Denise finds the idea laughable. |
