In the SCBU, Linda's worried when Nancy and Lee report that Mick left suddenly holding a letter. Dean arrives back at Patrick's with the teddy bear and Shirley deduces that he's been to the hospital. Dean declares that he won't let Linda keep him from his baby and produces paperwork to set up a children's bank account to save for the future. Mick arrives at Patrick's and explains they can check blood groups to determine who isn't the baby's father - he, Linda and the baby are all blood group O - if Dean isn't an O too, he can't be the father. Dean waits on tenterhooks while Shirley fetches test paperwork from when he was a child - his blood type is AB. Mick's jubilant while Dean covers his devastation. Mick declares that he doesn't need to have anything to do with any of them ever again and exits. Struggling, Dean claims that he didn't want to be lumbered with a kid and heads out for fish and chips. In the chip shop, Dean can't bear it when Billy chats about Linda's baby and bolts. In the hospital, Mick returns to his family with good news - the baby is one of them. Mick holds Linda as she cries with relief. Dean returns to Patrick's claiming that there was a queue at the chip shop but nosy Billy's hot on his tail with his abandoned order. Shirley's concerned. In hospital, Linda names the baby Oliver - he's always hungry for more. At Patrick's, Shirley presses that Dean's allowed to be upset – she knows what the baby meant to him. Dean claims that he was just forward thinking and lashes out, raging about his own parents' failures. Buster's riled. Shirley reaches out for Dean but he sends her flying, accusing her of being happy for Mick. Dean rips the teddy bear in two and storms off. Shirley fears that she's lost both of her sons. Later, Dean's sat in the allotments when Shabnam appears. As Dean rants that he'd have been a good father, Shabnam blurts "she told you?". Confused, Dean stares at Shabnam. Shabnam flees, leaving Dean to wonder. The jury finds Dot not guilty of murder, to cheers from her supporters, but their relief's short lived when Dot's found guilty of manslaughter. While the court's adjourned before sentencing, Charlie questions Ritchie and Dot's lawyer of the possibility of a suspended sentence given Dot's age. Judge Redmond takes into consideration Nick's treatment of Dot, but declares that she still could have sought help for Nick, and sentences Dot to 14 months imprisonment. Later, in prison, Fatboy and Charlie beg Dot to appeal but Dot refuses and resigns to wait out her sentence - anything less wouldn't be right. Masood and Fatima make chit chat with Asim over tea. Shabnam's eventually charmed by Asim's jokes but when he mentions his plans to have children, she becomes hostile. Fatima ushers her out and demands to know what's wrong. Asim follows and apologises for upsetting Shabnam but she blurts that she's not ready. Fatima turfs Masood and Tamwar out of the house and confronts Shabnam alone, insisting that she stops punishing herself for the past - seven years is a long time. Shabnam pales and tries to ignore Fatima as she presses that Shabnam must think about that day - any mother would. Shabnam finally asks if her daughter's okay. Fatima explains that she doesn't keep in touch but made sure she was settled before leaving her adoptive parents to bring her up. Fatima wishes Shabnam had confided in her and urges her to tell Masood the truth. Alarmed, Shabnam forbids Fatima from saying anything. Later, she seeks solace in the allotments where she encounters Dean. A seething Phil wipes blood from his nose while Vincent reminisces about Phil's father, jeering he lacked a killer instinct in the boxing ring, unlike Grant. Vincent thinks Phil doesn't have it in him to kill Carl White, and contemplates who in the family does. In court, Ronnie's phone rings, 'Carl White' flashing up on the screen. Shaken Ronnie answers to Vincent, who knows that she killed Carl and warns her to watch out for herself and her family. Back at the hospital, Ronnie worries to Phil, who reluctantly admits that Vincent might prove difficult to handle. Ronnie insists that Phil must watch out for Charlie, revealing Vincent's threat. |
