Life is looking rosy for Ian, but his fiancee, Cindy seems unable to share his optimism. Down at the market, the Beales' business continues to face competition from Laurie's new fruit and vegetable stall, which gives Dot an idea; she gets Pete to agree to refund her the £1.50 she paid for her cabbage if he is cheaper than Laurie (which he isn't, unfortunately), so he refunds her. As the Queen Vic talent night draws near, Ethel and Trevor are both in a dilemma as to what to perform, while Marge and Dot are more concerned with their ancient dance practice. Pat and Sharon turn in after closing time in The Vic, leaving Simon and Cindy alone in the bar once again, where she confesses that her unborn child is his and she is glad and doesn't really love Ian or want to marry him. Simon is stunned and unable to speak, which agitates Cindy.
