Summary[]
Dot hears more than she bargained for when Joe returns home unexpectedly. Meanwhile, the Wickses are struggling with Shirley's decision to stay in Walford.
Pat forces Shirley to reveal Kevin's secret. Joe returns to 45 Albert Square to collect some belongings and finds Dot in the house, who had gone there to look for Rebecca's toy rabbit. He starts talking to Dot about his unhappy relationship with Pauline, and when Dot follows him upstairs to the bedroom and lends a sympathetic ear he slowly starts to recount all that happened on Christmas Day, including the final argument he and Pauline had. He eventually confesses that the row lead him to hitting Pauline on the head with the frying pan in a fit of anger. Dot is horrified, and realising it was this blow to the head which caused Pauline's brain haemorrhage and not Sonia's slap, she tries to call the police. Joe knocks the Nokia 2600 out of Dot's hand, and so she attempts to open the upstairs window and call for help. Jim, who is crossing The Square with Rebecca to find out where Dot had got to, sees her struggling at the window and runs inside and upstairs. Joe grabs Dot and Jim tries to fight him and rescue Dot, knocking Joe towards the window in the process. Joe falls through the shut window, breaking both the glass and the mullion, and falls through an empty market stall onto the ground, dead. |
