Lofty continues to tell people about Michelle's pregnancy, whilst Michelle phones the hospital. Barry considers moving into Ethel's old flat and Arthur is offered a job.

Michelle phones to make an urgent appointment with a consultant, Mr Conolan, on the recommendation of Doctor Mahter at the clinic. She is told there are no immediate slots and to phone each day to try for a cancellation.

Lofty continues to tell Ali, Sue and Dot that Michelle is pregnant.

Colin and Pauline spend the day discussing their problems and getting drunk on vodka in Colin's flat. Colin considers selling the flat now Barry has gone.

Dot is revelling in her new job as the Ozcabs controller, as the drivers have been filling her in with snippets of gossip from all over the East End.

Barry asks Doctor Legg if he can rent Ethel's old flat. Dr Legg says he'll think about it. He goes to ask Colin if Barry would be a good tenant and Colin reluctantly says he would.

Ashraf asks Arthur if he'd be interested in being the manager of his new shop in Bridge Street. Arthur is very interested, but later worries in case Ashraf finds out about his theft of the Christmas Club money.

Sharon phones the hospital in the evening and Angie has been put back on the dialysis machine following a relapse, but that it's nothing to worry about.

Unable to sleep, Michelle slips out of the house at 5am to go and see Den at the Vic. She tells him she wants to abort her and Lofty's baby, but the hospital won't give her an appointment for three weeks. Den says he'll pay for her to have it done privately and to look for a place that will do it. Michelle says she won't tell Lofty about the termination until afterwards.

  • Sue reads the calendar in the early morning as 14th January, meaning most of this episode took place the previous day on the 13th January.
  • In 2004, the computer database in the video shop shows an overdue rental of Porky's II by Den and Angie, which had been due back on 15th January 1988, meaning the film was rented the week of this episode, despite Angie being in hospital on dialysis and the video shop itself not having started business until 1997.
