Summary[]

Phil tries to ensnare Dan at Mitchell's Garage, while Laura convinces Ian to talk to the police. Melanie is baffled by Steve's behaviour, and Peggy is exasperated by Barry's incompetence.


Phil arrives at the club to invite Steve to the Arches at 10pm - because he has something of his. Melanie keeps interrupting saying that they aren't interested in dealing with Phil. Phil looks at her disdainfully and ignores her nagging Steve. When he's gone she says, "one person we are not getting into bed with is Phil Mitchell" Steve laughs at the irony and says that's not a joke. Later, Melanie insists that Steve not go to see Phil unless she goes too. He says in irritation hasn't she had enough of him. She makes him swear on his life not to do business with Phil.

Phil tells Jamie that he shouldn't be at the Arches later and Jamie says maybe Phil is going about this the wrong way. Jamie asks who is coming later and Phil says Jamie's seen what people have done to him lately, make a list!

Dan gets into a car with Richie, and Dan says that he will give him all the takings - this isn't about money for him. Richie says OK, if he gets his cut, he was never that fond of Phil. He says that Phil may take some persuading and gets the heavy to give Dan the gun. Dan is reluctant but takes it when Richie insists.

Lynne goes on about how helpful Beppe was for fixing her heater when Garry wouldn't. Zoe and Kat says they bet she had a good look at his bum while he was doing it. Garry sulks. Anthony arrives and asks Kat to buy her a drink and she tells him to leave her alone. Zoe and Lynne say she is bang out of order. Zoe apologises for her later, and tells Anthony that Kat will be at E20 later and if he is interested he will have to try to make it his scene too.

Laura moans on at Ian being too scared to go out of the house and frightening the kids. She says if he goes to the police at least he won't have the spectre of Phil hanging over his head for the rest of his life. He reluctantly agrees. He goes to Mark to ask for advice and Mark is very worried and asks him exactly what he will tell them and asks whether he saw anything else. Ian goes off without noticing Mark's suspicious questions.

Jamie tells Sonia that Phil is going to sort out the person who shot him tonight and Sonia warns him to stay away. Jamie goes to see Phil and Phil tells him to stay at home.

Ian tells the very suspicious policeman his story and the policeman almost laughs at Ian's beating around the bush about how he stood by and did nothing and afterwards asks whether he is aware of the phone boxes and asks what he did exactly. Ian asks if it's a crime not to have called someone. The policeman says sarcastically "to leave someone dying in the street, what makes you think that?" He formally arrests Ian and charges him with Phil's murder.

Jamie asks Sonia to stay at home with him. He isn't good company and she says she's leaving, and Jamie begs her to stay. She tells him just to call the police. He says he's not a grass so won't do that.

Beppe's car breaks down and he asks Garry to fix it. Garry does it as a favour and says Beppe can buy him a beer later. Beppe asks innocently if Lynne is coming too. Garry says Beppe is taking a bit of a chance and Beppe realises how it sounded and says Lynne isn't his type. Garry then asks why. They go to E20 together later. Garry gives Beppe advice on pulling women!

Melanie watches Steve get twitchy around 10pm and says they have a deal. Dan is waiting outside the Arches with the heavy and the gun. Phil looks at the clock at about 10pm and phones the police to tell them that the geezer who shot him is hanging around outside the Arches. Dan chats to the heavy saying that Phil betrayed him without a second thought and that's why he hates him - still that's a lesson for everyone - trust no-one. Steve manages to evade Melanie's constant supervision for a minute and disappears to the Arches.

Beppe pulls the girl that Garry is trying to chat up, as all she wanted was for him to introduce her to Beppe. Kat is all over a sleazy bloke and Anthony watches and tries to interrupt rather clumsily. The bloke tells him to find his own tart and Anthony is annoyed at the insult, but Kat says she's been called far worse than that. Garry says Kat isn't a one-man girl and you win some you lose some.

Dan is inside the Arches and he and Phil have a bit of a ruck and Dan pulls the gun. Steve sees this from outside and doesn't go in. Jamie is pacing the floor by the phone and eventually goes to the Arches! He interrupts the altercation. Phil tells Dan to leave Jamie out of it. Dan says he has had enough and Phil asks if he's going to shoot him for a few grand. Melanie is annoyed to find Steve gone and goes to the Arches. She meets him on the way back after he looked through a crack in the door and saw Dan holding Phil at gunpoint, so he wisely decided not to go in. Melanie asks where he went and he lies transparently. Jamie runs at Dan and the gun goes off. Steve rushes back to the Arches and Melanie follows. Jamie shouts at Phil to give Dan the money, but Dan is backing off and as he leaves, the police tell him to put the gun down, as there are armed police. He is arrested. The policeman sees Phil who says very insincerely, "thanks, you saved my life" and walks off. Steve asks Phil what game he's playing and Phil says it could be him next.
