Episode 2052 (2 January 2001)

Summary[]

Nick's rushed to hospital and wakes from his coma with a fractured skull and spinal injuries. Roy arranges to meet Pat, but bottles out. Meanwhile, Martin tells Pauline that he is Chloe's father.

Mick races over to an unconscious Nick and then alerts Dot. Mark just stares down from above. Mick tells Dot what's happened and rings for an ambulance. Mark climbs down and is crouching over Nick when Dot comes rushing over.

Inside, Lisa hears an ambulance arrive and starts shouting at Phil. He eventually comes downstairs and she tells him something's going on. Phil gives her a disdainful look and informs her she's drunk and should to go bed, it's none of their business. The paramedics stabilise Nick and take him to the hospital. Dot and Ashley go with him. A police officer on the scene asks what happened and Mark tells him he was drunk and fell.

At the hospital, Dot's informed that Nick has a hairline fracture and bruising of the spine. Dot's distraught and stays by her son's bedside.

The next morning, the story is all over Walford. In the café, a woman comes in and asks Lynne where the nearest garage is as her car has broken down. Lynne directs her to the Arches.

At Phil's, Peggy comes downstairs and is feeling better. Lisa is hungover again and Peggy tells her to go to bed while she does the cleaning.

Pat drops in to see Roy and wonders if he'd like to meet for a drink in the Vic at lunchtime, to say thanks for New Year's Eve. Roy's hesitant at first but then agrees.

Martin finds Mark in the launderette and is looking for reassurance. Mark tells him that Nick fell, it had nothing to do with him. He also promises not to tell Pauline about Chloe.

In the café, Laura shows Ian the school uniform Mark sold her for Steven. Ian doesn't really like the idea of second hand clothes but doesn't have much of a choice. Phil struts in and pulls down the 'Kathy's' sign from the window. Ian's furious but Phil tells him he now owns the café outright. He made an offer and it was accepted.

Meanwhile, Barry tries to convince Roy not to meet Pat - she's made a fool of him. In the end, Roy goes to the Vic but leaves before Pat arrives.

Beppe is looking for Phil to make good their deal for his half of the E20. Phil informs him that he's changed his mind, the deal is off. Beppe is disgusted, as is Melanie who lets Phil know that he won't have that kind of power over her. Beppe has promised Joe a trip to America so he is desperate to sell his share in the club. He tries his last resort - Steve. Never one to let a deal go by, Steve agrees.

Martin can't hold in his secret any longer. He knows Pauline is going to find out about Chloe eventually so he puts a brave face on and tells his mum he's the father of the baby.

Outside, Mick has a word with Mark about his involvement in Nick's accident. Mark ignores all his implications and informs him he was trying to help Nick and that's all.

At the hospital, Nick is after waking up. An anxious Dot watches over him. He beckons her close and reveals he didn't fall - Mark pushed him!
