Summary[]

Peggy is shocked by after hours intruders while Mick's band celebrate after the gig. Michael wonders if he can honour a commitment. Barry steers Robbie into troublesome waters.

Barry takes a wrong delivery of videos and is interested to discover that they are adult movies - Robbie is determined that they should be returned the following morning.

Mary and Tiffany intend to go out to Mick's gig but feel they shouldn't leave Peggy behind as she seems down after receiving a postcard from George. Peggy asks Phil to babysit Courtney so the girls can go and Phil reluctantly agrees.

Gianni presses Annie about the vandalism at the gym. Annie tells him it was nothing and she thought that George had been crazy to give them the restaurant. Gianni overhears a conversation between Tony, Ruth and Polly and realises that Teresa is going to the gig with Tony. Tony receives a phone call from Teresa and announces that she isn't going after all.

Lenny borrows a van to go to the gig. Mick and Lola are not impressed when he can't get it started. Lenny eventually manages to persuade Ricky to fix it for him.

Michael and Matthew visit Susan at the hospital. Later Matthew accuses his father of not wanting to spend the rest of his life with an invalid.

A couple of Carter's men have been hanging around the Square all day. They wait outside the Vic for George to come out.

Frank arrives unexpectedly but Ricky and Bianca have gone to the gig. Pat and Barry want to plan something for Roy's birthday and Peggy tells them they can have a surprise party for him at the Vic. Having nowhere to stay Frank is offered the sofa by Peggy in exchange for locking up. Peggy and Frank have a quiet drink upstairs. When Peggy goes downstairs to fetch some more she is confronted by the men from Carter - Jonah and Alfie.

  • This episode marks the debut of EastEnders' first episode director, Matthew Robinson, as the shows executive producer. He would remain in the role for a further two years, his last episode being in April 2000.
  • For the first time in the history of the show, the end credits were given a totally new design. From this episode, the credits would scroll up the screen rather than cutting to individual sets at the bass of the theme tune. Also, the Writer, Producer and Director credits were now shown at the beginning of the episode just after the opening titles rather than being included in the credits with the final time this was used being 13 April 2000.
  • Radio Times synopsis: Strangers disturb Peggy after closing time, while the band's first gig goes down a storm.
  • Viewing Figures: UK broadcast - 14,700,000 viewers (chart placing unknown).
