Saturday's robbery attempt at J. M. Harvey (Cash Betting) Ltd in Hackney turned into a fiasco when Steer shot his accomplice in the leg as Phil waited in the getaway car outside the bookie's. Steer took the car and left Phil on the pavement to help the injured Keating get away on foot. That night after taking Keating to his mother's house, Phil returned to the Queen Vic to tell Grant what happened. When asked why Steer shot Keating, Phil said that Keating was "losing his bottle" and Steer panicked. The next morning, Sunday, Jackson and DC Firth returned to Albert Square to question Grant and Phil about the armed robbery in Hackney. After briefly questioning Grant they found Phil, who fit their description of one of the robbers, in the street near Frank Butcher's Portakabin. As they questioned him about his whereabouts on the previous afternoon, Frank and Pete Beale came by. Frank, seeing that Phil was about to be arrested, told Jackson that Phil had been with him and Pete watching The Oaks on television upstairs at the pub on Saturday afternoon. Frank soon thought of a way for Phil to repay him for the alibi.
