Al Jenkins is a doctor. He first appeared on 1 May 2009 and last on 4 February 2010. He was portrayed by Adam Croasdell.
Storylines[]
2009-2010: Arrival, romances with Tanya, Roxy and Chelsea, sectioning Stacey and departure[]
Al arrives in 2009 and quickly got himself a job as the Square's doctor. He began developed a close doctor-patient relationship with many members of the Square, most notably Heather, as he is the first person that she opens up to about her pregnancy and the issue involving the father of the baby.
Al becomes popular amongst the ladies of Albert Square, who comment on his good looks in the Cafe. When Tanya Branning accidentally spills coffee on Al, he shoots his shot and asks her out. After several nights out at Vic, Al invites her to a date at Fargo's restaurant. However, Tanya's ex-husband, Max Branning, overhears this and asks his son Bradley Branning to spy on them. After the date becomes awkward, Al ends the brief relationship.
In October 2009, Jean Slater comes to Al asking him to help cure her mentally ill daughter Stacey Branning. After trying to get her straight fails, Al arranges for her to be sectioned by arranging two colleagues and two police officers to wait for Stacey to come home, before taking her away. Al then starts to organise the Children In Need party and starts an on off relationship with Roxy Slater even though he is already dating Chelsea Fox but he dumps Chelsea after realising that Roxy is the one he really has feelings for. When Roxy inherited a fortune from her fathers death, she begins to lose interest in Al and their relationship and more interesting in running The Vic.
In February 2010, Al is offered another job in Cornwall and explains to Roxy that he has lost his job as someone complained about their relationship violating the rules of a doctor-patient relationship. He is set to leave the Square for good until he realises that his feelings for Roxy have deepened and begs her to leave with him. After she declines, he realises that he must leave alone, before saying goodbye to his favourite patient; Heather Trott.
