35th Anniversary Week was a week of EastEnders episodes that aired in February 2020 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the show. The week of episodes are centered around the same day from different characters perspectives after attending a boat party the boat through unpredictable circumstances began to sink.

Plot[]

Monday 17 February 2020[]

Episode 6081 (17 February 2020) 1

17th February 2020.

Whitney Dean phones Mick Carter in a panic after killing Leo King. Shirley Carter gives a vengeful Phil Mitchell a gun and he goes to find Keanu Taylor, who had an affair with Phil's wife Sharon Mitchell and previously survived a murder attempt from the Mitchell family who believed Keanu to be dead until the week prior. Shirley and Linda Carter fight after Shirley finds out Linda is divorcing her son Mick Carter after the boat party.

Episode 6081 (17 February 2020)

Mick finds comes to Whitney's house and finds Leo dead in the Kitchen Mick then tells Whitney to come to the boat party with him so she has alibis, Shirley and Linda have a heart to heart and Linda confesses she still loves Mick and Shirley convinces her to try to save her marriage, Linda prepares to do just what Shirley said until she sees Mick coming out of Whitney's house and assumes they're having an affair. Isaac Baptiste insults Patrick Trueman, leading to Patrick telling Sheree Trueman that he wants to tell Isaac that he is his son. The residents of Albert Square board the coach and prepare to depart for the boat party.

The residents board The Smith-Holland (ship) for their boat party after The Queen Victoria won pub of the year, Linda got extremely drunk while on the coach and continues to drink on the boat. Sonia Fowler comes home to find Leo dead on the kitchen floor and phones Martin Fowler in a panic, Linda grabs a microphone and attempts to publicly humiliate Mick and accuses him of having an affair with Whitney, telling everyone that is the reason for their marriage ending, but Mick fires back telling everyone the reason their marriage is over is because of Linda's alcoholism, Linda then runs away, she makes her way to the boats kitchen and reaches to get a bottle of wine before the boat crashes and knocks her out, Patrick is about to tell Isaac the truth but is interrupted by the boat crashing, the captain informs everyone the boat is sinking and they need to evacuate the boat immediately. Mick realises Linda is missing and goes to find her, he finds her in the kitchen, however her leg is stuck and water begins to build up, trapping them.

Tuesday 18 February 2020[]

Ian Beale looks on at his smashed window, Keanu asks Sharon if she has spoken to Dennis after Sharon and Keanu reunited after Keanu returned to Walford. Dennis asks Sharon if he can go on the boat party but Sharon says no, it is then revealed Dennis is bullying Ian's Bobby Beale online, Bobby is then attacked by a group of islamophobic men due to Dennis exposing him online and is rushed to hospital.

Ian is informed of Bobby's attack and Dotty Cotton gets Bex Fowler some drugs, Bex also tells Ian it was Dennis's fault Bobby was attacked and Ian leaves the hospital to find Dennis. The residents arrive for the boat party and Bex takes the drugs and ends up collapsing as a result, Kat Slater then discovers Dotty supplied her with drugs. Jack Branning tells his brother Max that Max's daughter Lauren and her then boyfriend Peter have split up, Max asks how long has Jack known. Jack tells him he has known for two months, Max is furious that Jack never told him and the brothers argue, when Max brings Jacks's daughter Penny into the argument, Jack punches him. Sonia discovers Bex has taken extremely dodgy drugs.

Ian finds Dennis and a confrontation ensues, which ends with Ian locking Dennis in the boats locker room and Peter Beale returns to see Bobby in hospital and the boat crashes forcing Ian to go back to attempt to rescue Dennis as the water gains in the room.

Thursday 20 February 2020[]

Phil returns to Walford intent on finishing Keanu off, Purchasing a gun off Shirley Carter and then taking Karen hostage, demanding to know where Keanu is, Karen refuses to tell Phil so he grabs her pointing the gun into her stomach but is knocked out from behind with a frying pan by Billy Mitchell. Ben Mitchell receives another threatening text from Keanu who kidnapped Ben's boyfriend Callum Highway the week prior and was blackmailing the Mitchell's for £100,000, threatening to kill Callum if he wasn't paid.

Billy tells Karen that he had seen Keanu going to the boat party on The Smith-Holland ship, Phil was only pretending to be unconscious and heard the conversation, Phil fails to meet Ben with the money so Ben kidnaps Sharon, taking her to Coker & Mitchell funeral parlour and demands to know where Keanu is, as this is happening Sharon's waters break, Kathy Beale arrives and tells Ben she saw Phil and Keanu heading towards the boat party, Ben then leaves and goes after them, Kathy acts as her midwife.

Ben orders Phil to drop his gun.

Phil finds Keanu and beats him up, he expresses how much Keanu has hurt him, Keanu tells Phil he is sorry and tells him where Callum is, Phil sends Shirley to find him but she can't find him. Phil believes Keanu is lying and chases him around the ship attempting to shoot him, Keanu and Phil begin fighting and Phil punches the ship captain when he tries to stop the fight, Phil then pushes Keanu into the boat wheel, which causes the boat to crash and Phil begins to strangle Keanu before preparing to shoot Keanu dead, but in an unexpected move Ben turns his gun on Phil and demands he let Keanu go.

Friday 21 February 2020[]

Episode 6084 (21 February 2020) 1

20th February 2020.

Ben tells Phil to put his gun down, stating he needs Keanu alive to find Callum. Phil then puts his gun down and lets Keanu go, Keanu runs off but Ben angrily approaches Keanu and demands to know where Callum is, the two begin to fight before they both fall off the boat into the water. Mick desperately tries to free Linda's leg, Mick and Linda end up underneath the water drowning, Mick realises the only way he can free Linda's leg is by breaking it, which he does, causing Linda to pass out. Mick then swims to the surface with an unconscious Linda on his shoulder, Mick and Linda are pulled onto a life boat by Stuart Highway and Rainie Cross, Linda is then successfully revived by a rescue team officer using CPR. Mick takes Linda back to the Vic and she finally admits she is an alcoholic and that she'll get help.

Ian desperately tries to free Dennis and manages to find a fire extinguisher and breaks the door down, the pair almost escape but a flurry of water sinks them. Sharon gives birth to Kayden Watts and is taken to hospital to recover, Keanu, Ben and Ben are pulled into lifeboats and survive the crash, all the residents get to the docks and survive, Whitney hands herself into the police for Leo's murder, an unconscious Ian and Dennis are pulled from the water, the rescue team manage to find a pulse on Ian and send him away in an ambulance. The rescue team try to revive Dennis with CPR but Dennis stops breathing, Dennis is pronounced dead by the rescue team in front of the devastated residents including Keanu, who looks on in shock. Phil also witnesses Dennis die from afar and is devastated that he has unintentionally caused his step son's death.

EastEnders 35th Anniversary

Ian wakes up and Kathy tells him that Dennis died, Ian begins to cry and is full of guilt knowing that him locking Dennis in the room on the boat partially caused his death, Kathy and the other residents think Ian tried to save Dennis (which is partially true but no one was aware of him locking Dennis in the room of the boat). Sharon spends time in the hospital bonding with her newborn but is heart broken when Keanu arrives and tells her what has happened to Dennis, she blames the affair for Dennis' death after swearing on his life to Louise that she wasn't having an affair with Keanu. She then demands Keanu leave saying she never wants to see him again.

  • Dennis Rickman Jr (accidentally killed by Phil Mitchell and Ian Beale) - Phil caused the Smith-Holland boat to crash by throwing Keanu into the boat wheel, Dennis was aboard the ship but couldn't escape due to Ian locking him in a room, Dennis died on the ship via drowning, neither man intentionally killed Dennis but both are responsible for his death.
