Summary[]

Lorraine's news provokes a hostile reaction from Joe, while Jessie proves to be a handful for Mark and Ruth. The Jacksons are on tenterhooks as they anxiously await news of Billie, leaving Carol close to breaking point.

Mark and Ruth try to get Jessie to communicate. She receives a letter from her mother saying she is not allowed visitors. Ruth realises she wants to keep Jessie away until she has finished her detox, and she also discovers Jessie can't read.

Lorraine receives a job offer from Bolton. Joe accuses her of trying to cause a split between him and Sarah, he asks Sarah if he can come and stay with her.

Terry irritates Grant by airing his views on child-rearing.

Barry tries unsuccessfully to arrange credit for his ailing business.

Mary tells Joe she dreamt about him and he offers to show her the sights of London.

Max tells Tony that Polly has an interview with a national paper and he should look for another journalist to team up with.

The Jacksons get a phone call from the woman who masqueraded as the teacher during the kidnap. She says she wants to do a deal because she never wanted to kidnap Billie and she was forced into it, so if the police promise not to arrest her she will tell them everything she knows. Carol agrees and they trace her call to opposite the house. She comes quietly with the police, although Carol tries to attack her as the police lead her away. Alan restrains Carol who screeches threats after the car.
